Jackie Trad CCC investigation: Premier ‘hasn’t spoken’ to former deputy, remains tight-lipped on future

Annastacia Palaszczuk says she has not spoken to former deputy premier Jackie Trad since she resigned from Cabinet at the weekend, saying there’s no place back in Cabinet for her, even if she is cleared by the CCC.

ANNASTACIA Palaszczuk has not spoken to her former deputy premier Jackie Trad since she resigned from Cabinet at the weekend.

The Premier today said she wanted to the Crime and Corruption Commission to “get on” with the job after the CCC confirmed on Saturday it was investigating allegations Ms Trad interfered with a school principal selection process.

Ms Palaszczuk again insisted that Ms Trad would not be brought back into Cabinet this term, even if she was cleared by the CCC, and would not say if there would be a path for her to the front bench after the election.

Ms Trad has denied any wrongdoing and has previously said that she never expressed a view to anyone on who should fill the principal role.

Ms Palaszczuk also said she was standing by her Education Minister Grace Grace, who yesterday released a statement saying the appointment of principals was an operational matter that was handled without involvement from her or her office.

Premier Anastasia Palaszczuk says she has not spoken to Jackie Trad since her former deputy resigned.

“The Minister has put out a statement yesterday and I stand by that statement that the Minister has put out,” she said.

“These are matters before the CCC. There is an investigation by the CCC and I would actually want the CCC to get on and do that job.”

When asked if she had spoken to Ms Trad, Ms Palaszczuk said: “I have only spoken to her on the weekend”.

The Premier said Rachel Hunter would become Under Treasurer for newly appointed Treasurer Cameron Dick.

It comes after Frankie Carroll, who worked as Ms Trad’s Under Treasurer, was appointed director-general of Regional Development and Manufacturing under Cabinet’s lowest-ranked minister, Glenn Butcher.

“(Ms Hunter is) the second most experienced senior public servant we have in Queensland,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

“I’m delighted at her appointment.

“I really want Frankie Carroll to do a great job looking after my new Minister that has enormous responsibility for regional development and also for manufacturing.”
