A Queensland Health bureaucrat who was sacked amid the southeast’s hospital debacle earlier this year is suing the state for his dumping.

A QUEENSLAND Health boss who was sacked amid the south east’s hospital debacle has taken the State Government to the industrial relations commission.
Stephen Ayre, who ran five hospitals, was sacked from Metro South late last month.

In his affidavit, Dr Ayre says: “I have suffered significant damage to my reputation already from the purported termination of my employment being communicated to all staff and being reported in the media, including the front page of The Courier-Mail on 30 April 2019.
“I also stand to lose wages and superannuation, the prospect of which is a significant stress on me and my family.”
A spokesman for Health Minister Steven Miles said: “The Minister denies the allegation of bias.
“The Minister has delegated his role in the matter to another minister, just as previous health ministers have done in the same situation to put the matter beyond any question or doubt.
“As this is an ongoing matter it would not be appropriate for the Minister to comment any further at this stage.”
