Deputy Premier Steven Miles hasn’t used private email for work

Deputy Premier Steven Miles attacks Opposition Leader as questions over use of politicians’ private emails continue.

Deputy Premier Steven Miles says he hasn’t used a private email address for work purposes while launching an attack at David Crisafulli, claiming he fronted his first estimates as LNP Leader with “exactly the same playbook as his two predecessors”.

In 2017, a Right to Information request revealed three emails sent by Mr Miles from his official email account to his personal one.

But Mr Miles defended the emails at the time, saying they were an “entirely appropriate use of email” and released the one which was redacted as a cabinet matter to show it was not of a confidential nature.

Asked this morning whether he had used a private email account for work purposes, aside from those revealed in 2017, Mr Miles said no.

“Frankly if David Crisafulli is serious about saying that he’s going to be a different kind of leader, well why are they continuing with the exact same types of attacks that defined the last two terms of the LNP opposition,” he said.

“Two terms that were incredibly unsuccessful.

“They went backwards each and every time.

“This new leader said he’d be different, turned up to his first estimates with exactly the same playbook as his two predecessors.”

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk came under fire during Budget Estimates yesterday after her personal email address – [e-mail] – was revealed.

The Opposition produced a document that was a purported email sent from Minister Mark Bailey’s mangocube email to ‘[e-mail]’.

Ms Palaszczuk said she couldn’t recall it, would not confirm whether it was genuine and did not answer questions later about whether she had used the private email for work.

Mr Miles, who is fronting Estimates this morning, said he had never sent an email to [e-mail].
