THOUSANDS of Queensland school-leavers will be nervously waiting by the phone today as universities across the state release offers for 2019 courses.

A Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) spokeswoman said 8,395 school leavers will receive an offer today and start their university adventures in a matter of months.

After today’s offer round, QTAC say a total of 49,727 year 12 school-leavers would have been offered a place at a university for semester one this year.

The three most desired courses for this semester in Queensland are medicine, nursing and business.

While it will be an exciting day for some and upsetting for others, QTAC wants to remind students if they miss out tomorrow it isn’t the end of their chances at getting into a course.

“Applicants who miss out on an offer tomorrow can check the course vacancy information which will be published on our website after offers are released to find out if their course is still making offers” a QTAC spokeswoman said.

It is a nerve-racking time for students to find out the news, but some students are already rejoicing after being accepted into their courses of choice.

Brisbane twins Marcus and Tomas Ray from Brisbane Grammar School worked hard throughout their senior schooling, and have already received their offers from two highly prestigious universities.

Marcus accepted a position only days ago at Oxford University to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics starting in October this year while Tomas has been offered a position at the University of Edinburgh for Russian Studies with International Business in September, and was also accepted for a course in the University of Queensland for Architecture.

Marcus said he was shocked when he was offered a position at Oxford University.

“It was a big shock for all of us, none of us were particularly expecting it … so we were all quite ecstatic when the news came out,” Marcus said.

While the boys have certainly made their school and family proud, they said they know exactly how thousands of other students are feeling today leading up to their university offers.

“I think the biggest piece of advice is simply to remember that there are always other opportunities and alternatives to find a way into the course you desire,” Tomas said.

Further offers for semester one will be made on January 25.
