Qld weather: More rain on the way for South East following overnight totals of up to 17mm

South East Queensland is bracing for a wet weekend following a night of “significant” rain for the season, with areas in the path of two major rain bands.

Following a night of “significant” rain for the dry season, South East Queensland is set for more wet weather with areas expecting up to 25mm over the weekend.

Last night most of South East Queensland saw between 1mm and 9mm with tops of up to 17mm at Point Lookout on Stradbroke Island and 15mm on Cape Moreton also on Stradbroke Island.

BOM Meteorologist Brooke Pagel said the average of 5mm to 17mm across the state was “pretty significant” rainfall totals for the dry season.

“Today and tomorrow are the main days that we’re going to get rainfall as the rain band moves through,” Ms Pagel said.

Higher rain totals are set to hit western areas of the state over the range near Springbrook with Ms Pagel saying the predictions will be up to 25mm.

“Overall it will be pretty similar to today’s conditions and pick up a little bit tomorrow and through to Sunday it will be around 1 to 5mm,” Ms Pagel said.

Next week, another rain band is expected to move through eastern Queensland into Monday and Tuesday, according to Ms Pagel.

“It’ll be similar to what we’re seeing which is moderate rain but very steady before it will ease off before Wednesday,” she said.

From Thursday on, the rain is expected to ease off with Ms Pagel saying South East Queenslanders can expect cloudy but dry conditions.
