More than 150 people died in Myanmar and at least 10 people died in Bangkok, Thailand’s capital.

The earthquake brought multiple buildings down across southeast Asia with footage showing a 30-storey skyscraper under construction collapsing in Bangkok.

Posting to her Instagram account from Bangkok, Monk described the moment her hotel building went “side to side” during the earthquake.

Monk said she had never experienced anything like the earthquake, with her building swaying.

“I have never experienced anything like this, I was just in a – I am in Bangkok – in the scariest ever earthquake and on the 52nd floor,” Monk said in an Instagram reel.

“So it was going side to side to side – the building, like we were climbing from side to side on our tummies.

“It was so full on and we ran down the emergency stairs and made it out but whoa that will get your heart racing.

“I ran out with no shoes so a lady let me have her shoes what a legend. That was lovely.

“I hope everyone is okay it was so hectic – I think it was a 7.5 earthquake … I don’t want to be in that sucker again.”

A series of Instagram reels of what she experienced during the earthquake were also posted, including one of her rushing down the hotel’s emergency staircase and another of paramedics taking wheelchairs to people in need. She later posted videos of her evacuating the hotel with no shoes.

She left her hotel room without shoes.

She then posted a video of her getting her feet washed after walking barefoot while she waited to get back to her hotel.

“I have slippers too, oh my gosh everyone is so nice,” she said.

“We are not allowed back into our hotel so we are kind of just walking around the streets until we know that we can get back in.”
