US Ambassador Caroline Kennedy will soon make her first visit to Queensland since taking up her diplomatic post in Australia.
It is understood Ms Kennedy will arrive in the Sunshine State over the weekend, where she is expected to take part in official duties and engagements.
Meeting with community and Queensland political leaders is set to be on the agenda, as well as participating in cultural engagements – and potentially even watching an NRL game.
It is unknown how long the Ambassador will be on the ground, but it is understood she will venture beyond the state’s South East during her visit.
It is Ms Kennedy’s first trip to Queensland since she was nominated by President Joe Biden to represent the US in Australia.
The diplomat took up the post in July 2022, and has previously represented her country as Ambassador to Japan during the Obama administration.
Since taking up the job in Australia, she has made a number of trips around the country – including two visits to Western Australia.
Ms Kennedy has also visited Melbourne, where she met with Victorian Premier Danial Andrews, as well as the Northern Territory where she attended the Garma Festival.
Last month, Ms Kennedy, whose father was former US president John F Kennedy, watched on from the stands in Sydney during an AFL clash between the Swans and Hawthorn.
She was also spotted last year at a Bunnings in the ACT where she purchased a snag from the sausage sizzle – a pastime many Australians have taken part in.
Ahead of taking up the job as Ambassador, Ms Kennedy said her father had wanted to be the first sitting US president to visit Australia.
“I am honoured to carry his legacy forward in my own small way,” she said at the time.
“I am eager to learn all I can about the First Nations Australians’ culture and traditions, Australia’s modern multicultural society, the incredible natural environment, and abundant natural resources.”
