The Premier will no longer also shoulder responsibility for the Olympic and Paralympic Games portfolio under the imminent Miles government.
Incoming Premier Steven Miles is set to shed the Olympic and Paralympic portfolio, in a sign the state’s highest office will seek to distance itself from the controversy tied to the big spending event.
It’s understood Games stakeholders are hoping for a single minister in charge of the Olympics and Paralympics, for less complexity than dealing with four ministers.
Mr Miles and Treasurer Cameron Dick are set to be sworn in as Premier and Deputy Premier respectively on Friday afternoon, in an official end to the nine-year reign of Annastacia Palaszczuk.
Labor MPs will meet from 10am on Friday after a tumultuous week, with the Right and Old Guard factions expected to gather separately prior to the caucus get-together.
It is anticipated Mr Miles will put together his cabinet on Friday, expected to be made up of 19 MPs up from 18, with the first cabinet meeting pencilled in for Monday.
At least five Assistant Ministers are expected to be elevated to cabinet, with Charis Mullen, Bart Mellish, Michael Healy, Nikki Boyd and Lance McCallum flagged as those most likely to be promoted.
A government source flagged the potential for Mr Mellish to be propelled into the transport portfolio.
The Right faction are understood to have secured Transport and Main Roads as part of the deal to support Mr Miles as leader.
