State Minister and Labor factional heavyweight Grace Grace has welcomed a new member to the Old Guard fold. But is this a match made in heaven?

We can just imagine Education Minister Grace Grace performing a jig after knocking out a missive this week to her factional mates about their newest member.
So gushing was Grace’s praise of Stretton MP Duncan Pegg that even George Street was left impressed by the man we fondly call the Member for Blame it on the Boogie after his infamous birthday dance off with a belly dancer during the COVID pandemic.
“I have known Duncan for many years, he’s a tenacious fighter for his community,” Grace enthused in her role as the Old Guard faction boss.
Peggy’s signature is quite a coup for Labor’s pint-sized faction which was at risk of extinction after more amalgamations left it without an affiliated union, which is apparently a no-no under party rules.
Yet not everyone was cheering at Grace’s “good news”.
The only reason Peggy was on the lookout for new friends was because he apparently quit the Right in a huff after losing his prized committee chair post to Mansfield’s Corrine McMillan in the post-election carve up of parliamentary spoils.
Clearly something is amiss within Labor’s former kingmaker faction which still pines for the time when the Left was a rabble.
Peggy’s pirouette out the faction exit door follows other MPs in recent years, including Curtis Pitt, Glen Butcher and Jim Madden
