Queensland Governor Jeannette Young has enjoyed the rare privilege of a private meeting with King Charles III at the royal Sandringham Estate.
The Governor and her husband Professor Graeme Nimmo had the honour of the private audience with the reigning monarch on Tuesday.
The meeting took place at the 8000ha Sandringham Estate in the Norfolk coast area of England.
Acquired in 1862 by Albert Edward, Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII), as a private retreat away from London, Sandringham has been cherished by successive generations of the Royal Family, including King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II.
The estate’s grounds and gardens have been open to the public since the early 20th century, reflecting its historical and cultural significance.
After 16 years as Queensland’s chief health officer, including steering the state through the Covid-19 pandemic, Dr Young was appointed governor in 2021, during the reign of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
She attended the King’s coronation last year.
Dr Young and Prof Nimmo are on an official diplomatic visit to the UK and France, with the couple heading to Paris on Thursday as representatives of Queensland at the Olympic Games.
