A staggering 94 per cent of Courier-Mail subscribers polled have said Yvette D’Ath should be sacked amid the state’s health crises.

Acting Queensland Premier intervenes in Qld maternity crisis

In a stunning response to Queensland’s hospital crisis, 94 per cent of Courier-Mail subscribers polled want Health Minister Yvette D’Ath to be sacked.

A poll conducted on the Courier-Mail website on Tuesday attracted 1500 respondents, with only 6 per cent backing Ms D’Ath to keep her job as health and ambulance services minister.

It came as The Courier-Mail’s editorial suggested Ms D’Ath’s days were numbered.

Ms D’Ath has been beleaguered by multiple crises, including maternity services at Gladstone and Rockhampton, ambulance ramping, claims of toxic culture at multiple hospitals and bungling at the state’s forensic DNA lab.

Many readers agreed with the editorial, calling for Ms D’Ath’s resignation.

Commenter Kay described Ms D’Ath as a “moving disaster”.

“No matter which portfolio she’s given, she fails utterly,” they said.

IvanF questioned why it took so long to act on the hospital crisis.

“Why has intervention taken six months? Is it really an intervention? Or are they just keeping up appearances of actually doing something again? Booting D’Ath would be an admission of failure in this portfolio that they are so often criticised for across the board,” they said.

Commenters on Facebook were divided about the future of the Health and Ambulance Services portfolio.

Rae O'Neill disagreed Ms D’Ath’s days were numbered.

“I doubt it. She is good at her job,” they said.

Janice Vereen said Ms D’Ath should have resigned when it was discovered Mackay Base Hospital had a “toxic workplace culture”.

“She should have resigned over the Mackay Base Hospital saga. She just passed the buck!”
