Premier’s Paris plans with nine years until 2032

The Premier and Brisbane’s 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games organisers will travel to Paris next year for an up-close look at the world’s biggest sporting event.

The Premier and Brisbane’s 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games organisers will travel to Paris next year for an up-close look at the world’s biggest sporting event.

Annastacia Palaszczuk confirmed her travel schedule as Brisbane marked exactly nine years until the city hosts the iconic event.

It is just one year until Paris does the same.

Brisbane 2032 president Andrew Liveris said the coming 12 months would also be action packed for the Brisbane Olympic Games Organising Committee.

Along with the finalising of the BOCOG’s foundational strategic plan, the year would also bring the establishment of the brand narrative for 2032, the commercial strategy regarding sponsorship, and the First Nations reconciliation plan.

“We have a long lead time, but we don’t want to waste the opportunity we’ve been given,” he said.

In July 2024, Paris will host the Games. Mr Liveris said the International Olympic Committee had pledged to give the Brisbane team accreditation to see the inner workings of the lead-up and the event. Ms Palaszczuk yesterday confirmed she was scheduled to attend the Paris Olympics, but any journey would not be for the full duration of the Games.

“I’m down to go, yes,” she said.

“It’s up to the OCOG (Organising Committee for the Olympic Games) Board who goes, but it is my intention as the Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games to go, but probably only for a week.”

It is understood the Premier would also front a trade mission and hold other meetings while in Paris. Celebrations for the nine years milestone have been held this week., with Brisbane people yesterday able to get up close to the Olympic rings and Paralympic Agitos.
