A popular former Sunrise reporter and radio host could challenge Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon at the next election, in a surprise career swing.

Gold Coast reporter Bianca Stone, who was Sunrise’s Queensland reporter for 18 years, has embarked on a new challenge, a Nine News Queensland report claimed.

Liberal insiders told Nine News that Ms Stone had put her hand up to nominate for the seat of Gaven on the Gold Coast along with two other women who were not named.

Nine News said Ms Stone is understood to have significant support in parliament going into preselection next week

Scanlon has held the seat since 2017 and has been housing minister since May of 2023.

The mother of three had previously told News Corp she found Sunrise to have been a dream job but admitted the daily alarm and pressures had become cumbersome.

She announced her resignation in February last year in what was understood to have taken colleagues by surprise.
