Pauline Hanson visits Premier Steven Miles’ electorate to deliver fish and chips to homeless

Pauline Hanson has sent a strong message to Premier Steven Miles by taking a takeaway van into the heart of his electorate to offer free fish and chips to homeless locals suffering amid the state’s housing crisis.

Pauline Hanson has driven a takeaway van straight into Premier Steven Miles’ electorate to offer free fish and chips to Queenslanders living in makeshift tent cities.

While serving fried food to residents at the McKillop Park in Rothwell, the One Nation Senator sledged the Premier’s reaction to the growing homeless community in his own backyard, saying he “hasn’t got the bloody guts” to face them and give them answers.

“I hope I’m going to force the issue with him,” she told the Courier-Mail.

“If you want to be Premier of the state then act like it and represent all of the people.”

It comes after the Courier-Mail last month revealed up to 30 working Queenslanders and young families had taken up residence in the park -a startling image of the cost of living crisis gripping the state.

It is understood Mr Miles visited the tent city days following the story.

Ms Hanson said overwhelming migration numbers under both the Morrison and Albanese governments were causing crippling housing shortages for Australians in need, and demanded foreign students be banned from owning homes.

She also advocated for better rights for landlords to encourage investment, for pensioners to be able to rent out rooms tax free and for a scheme allowing first time home buyers to receive investments from their superannuation provider.

It was not the first time Pauline Hanson’s One Nation ventured to the Rothwell tent city, with Ms Hanson revealing she had met with tent residents before.

“My heart goes out to them,” she said.

“There is a couple here with six children that I spoke to, and because the father is on workers compensation, he’s over the limit for financial help, $1100 a week, but for a family of eight, they just can’t do it.

“When the government ignores housing for a family with six young children, it’s disgusting.”

Father of six Cameron Fletcher injured his back while working as a machine operator at a mine site near Mackay.

While waiting on a workers compensation claim, he was unable to afford rent and bills, before making the desperate move to the Rothwell tent city.

“We’ve gone from being a family in a house to living day by day,” he said.

“Paying for a powered site in Landsborough was still $700 per week so this is the best option.”
