The Opposition will hold “health crisis” town hall meetings across Queensland following repeated horror stories of patients using the public health system.
Opposition Leader David Crisafulli will today hold the first “Health Crisis Town Hall” in Brisbane, focusing on the quality of the Metro South Hospital and Health Service.
Mr Crisafulli said the Labor Government, which had promised record health spending when the Budget was handed down next week, was losing control of the system.
“If you truly care about people, it’s not about how much money you’re spending, it’s about ensuring our frontline staff have access to it and Queenslanders have access to a world class health system,” he said.
“The LNP has been inundated with cries for help from honest Queenslanders.
“Their stories are harrowing. That’s why I’m hosting these town halls.”
Mr Crisafulli reiterated calls for the State Government to adopt real-time data monitoring, improve triaging resources and fund more frontline beds.
“Patients want better healthcare and our hardworking frontline staff are crying out for more support,” he said.
“I encourage people to come forward as we continue to listen to honest Queenslanders who’ve been horribly let down by a state government which is more focused on excuses than outcomes.”
The government has previously said the state’s health system was, like all states, under pressure during the COVID-19 pandemic.
A second forum will be held in Brisbane on Tuesday before others are held on the Sunshine Coast, in Cairns and Rockhampton.
