State Liberal MPs going 'woke' spells 'disaster' for Coalition

The Liberal National Party’s Bryson Head is set to become Queensland’s youngest MP after securing the state seat of Callide in a by-election.

As of 8pm on Saturday night, with 43 per cent counted, Mr Head had secured nearly half of the first preference votes.

ABC election analyst Antony Green, an hour after polls closed, projected the LNP had taken “a hit” on first preferences but would “easily hold Callide”.

At the 2020 state election, the LNP’s Colin Boyce had secured 57 per cent of the first preference vote, winning the seat easily.

At just 26 Mr Head will be the youngest MP in Queensland’s parliament.

Mr Head, who was born and raised in Chinchilla, growing up on a beef and grain property, is a geologist by trade and a farming advocate.

A by-election in Callide was called after Mr Boyce ran, successfully, for the federal seat of Flynn.

The electorate stretches from Calliope to Chinchilla.

Mr Head’s Labor opponent was Bronwyn Dendle, a long-time advocate for the Sri Lankan asylum seeker family who have since made their way back to the Biloela community.
