Former high-ranking Queensland federal MP Terri Butler has been appointed to the board of a NSW-based recycling not-for-profit.
Ms Butler, the former Griffith MP, was set to become a government Minister under a Labor federal government but was ultimately ousted from her seat by the growing Green vote in Brisbane’s south.
Sydney-based not-for-profit Circular Australia, a newly created peak organisation working to “design out carbon and waste by keeping materials in the economy longer”, confirmed Ms Butler had been appointed its chair.
“As Australia works towards a Net Zero carbon target, the way we make, take and dispose of things is changing – designing things to last, to be repaired and recycled is the future,” Ms Butler said.
“The circular economy is a huge opportunity to create new resilient jobs that are fit for the future, make more sustainable products and services in Australia – all while cutting carbon and waste.”
Circular Australia is an expansion of “NSW Circular”, itself a body borne out of the NSW Chief Scientist’s office.
