Opposition leader David Crisafulli has slammed Annastacia Palaszczuk’s comments that Prime Minister Scott Morrison wanted Queenslanders “to get Covid for Christmas” as “not fitting of a premier”.
Ms Palaszczuk made the claim as she responded to questions over the Covid test debacle, in which her government had blamed Canberra for failing to clarify whether travellers needed to pay.
“The Premier made the most outrageous statement blaming Canberra, saying they wanted to give Queensland Covid for Christmas,” Mr Crisafulli told Sky News.
“Now I’m sorry, but that is not a fitting comment of a Premier … it was a very, very embarrassing day for our state.”
Mr Crisafulli took to social media earlier on Wednesday to hit out at the “complete and utter mess” created by PCR test debacle.
“What we’ve seen is a complete and utter mess at a time when it’s never been more important for clear and consistent messaging,” he said.
“It’s almost as though the government was wearing the fact they wanted people to pay $150 like a badge of honour.”
Mr Crisafulli later reassured people considering travelling to Queensland that they were welcome in the sunshine state.
