The LNP has called for the recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry into the state’s corruption watchdog to be immediately implemented amid criticism of the Palaszczuk government’s pace in enforcing changes from the Coaldrake Review.

In June Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk committed to fully implementing the Coaldrake Review recommendations, establishing a task force within the Department of Premier and Cabinet “immediately to implement the recommendations”.

However, Opposition Integrity spokeswoman Fiona Simpson criticised the pace of the implementation and said recommendations stemming from the Commission of Inquiry into the Crime and Corruption Commission should be delivered immediately.

“The Premier never wanted these reports and has no interest in actually using them to drive the genuine change we need to let the sun shine in on the actions of her government,” she said.

“The Palaszczuk government has form with making announcements but taking no responsibility for delivering what is needed … the Coaldrake review is a prime example of that.”

Ms Palaszczuk’s Director-General travelled to New Zealand to learn how its government released Cabinet papers, which the Queensland Government has committed to do within 30 days of a decision being made after it was suggested within the Coaldrake Review.

The Premier has previously said the task force, overseen by Department of Justice and Attorney-General Director-General David Mackie, had started work immediately and would report back to Cabinet in September “with its first legislative reform package for introduction to parliament”.
