Annastacia Palaszczuk’s popularity dives in regional Queensland, exclusive poll reveals

New polling has highlighted the stark divide between Queenslanders over the performance of Annastacia Palaszczuk, with the Premier given a blistering warning over her popularity.

Regional Queensland has shunned Annastacia Palaszczuk and her government on a range of issues, sounding a blistering warning about the Premier’s popularity.

Analysis of exclusive polling shows a stark difference between what the people of Brisbane are feeling, compared to the regions.

The biggest difference is when Queenslanders were asked to rate the Premier’s performance, 51 per cent of people in Brisbane said they were satisfied and 35 per cent were dissatisfied.

But just 41 per cent of people in the regions claimed they were satisfied, and it was the same figure of 41 per cent for dissatisfied.

It means Ms Palaszczuk’s net satisfaction in the regions is zero, compared to 16 per cent in Brisbane.

The poll, conducted by YouGov for The Courier-Mail showed just 52 per cent of people who live in the regions believe Annastacia Palaszczuk cares about Queensland – compared to 66 per cent of people in Brisbane.

But the Premier is more popular in regional Queensland than David Crisafulli, with just 31 per cent of people satisfied with the Opposition Leader’s performance.

Fifty per cent of voters in regional Queensland were uncommitted when asked if they were happy or not with the Opposition Leader’s performance, compared to the 18 per cent who were uncommitted about the Premier.

One third of people in regional Queensland believe the Premier does not care about Queensland, while it is one in five in Brisbane.

The difference is also stark when it comes to building and maintaining infrastructure.

In the regions, just 27 per cent of people think the government is doing an excellent or good job in that area, compared to 35 per cent in Brisbane.

Twenty-eight per cent of regional Queenslanders believe the government has performed excellent or good in relation to job creation, while 35 per cent of Brisbane voters believe the same.

The issue of integrity – which has plagued the Palaszczuk Government this term – has also divided the state.

In regional Queensland, 42 per cent of voters believe the government is weak or poor on integrity, compared to 33 per cent in Brisbane.

Voters across the state were largely on the same page when it came to the government’s performance on hospitals and ambulance ramping, with 16 per cent in Brisbane satisfied compared to 16 per cent across the rest of the southeast and 14 per cent in the regions.

No one in the southeast (excluding Brisbane) believed the government was doing an excellent job when it came to making housing more affordable.

This is compared to 5 per cent in Brisbane and 2 per cent in the regions.

Regional Queenslanders believe Peter Beattie was a better Premier of Queensland than Ms Palaszczuk.

Twenty-two per cent of voters in the regions said Mr Beattie was the better premier, compared to 19 per cent for Ms Palaszczuk.

But Ms Palaszczuk was ranked best Premier overall across the state – by a slim margin of one per cent compared to Mr Beattie.
