Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk held an invitation-only morning tea for her “Facebook friends” on Sunday, which was hosted by a top media coach.
The event, emceed by former Channel 7 presenter turned media potential director Jillian Whiting, featured Oprah-style personal branding for the Premier, bearing the word “Annastacia”.
The Premier said she had “spent Sunday morning with some of my amazing Facebook friends and supporters”.
“This is my favourite part of my job as Premier – meeting Queenslanders,” she posted to her multiple social media pages. “Thank you to everyone who came along to my morning tea.”
Queensland Labor state secretary Kate Flanders told The Courier-Mail the invite-only event was funded by the ALP.“We booked the venue and providers (eg catering) and paid normal commercial rates,” she said.
“It was a lovely morning with the Premier reflecting on the many achievements of the Palaszczuk Labor Government in Queensland.”
Neither Ms Flanders or the Premier’s office answered questions about how invitees were chosen from the tens of thousands of the Premier’s Facebook followers - or how many ultimately showed up.
A number of MPs also made an appearance including Bart Mellish, Jonty Bush and Corrine McMillan, with Labor mayoral candidate Tracey Price and members of the Young Labor team also there.
A number of photos of Ms Palaszczuk taken with her “Facebook friends and supporters” have also been posted online. One said she was “very flattered to have received an invite”, with another responding “me too”.
Another wrote: “It was an amazing morning! Nice to meet you Premier”.
Other attendees said it was also a “lovely morning” noting how “lovely” the venue was too – with the morning tea taking place at Queensland’s State Library.
But not all of Ms Palaszczuk social media followers were impressed, with one saying it looked like a party for the “brown noses”.
