Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has made a surprise visit to federal parliament flanked by her partner Dr Reza Adib and Treasurer Cameron Dick.

Despite ongoing state budget estimates hearing, the Premier has opted to fly to Canberra, appearing in the public gallery for the first Question Time of the freshly elected Albanese government.

Speaker Milton Dick paused proceedings to welcome the Premier and his older brother the Queensland Treasurer.

The Premier sat, shoulder to shoulder, with her partner Dr Adib, while the state treasurer flanked her on the left.

It is known within political circles that Ms Palaszczuk and the Speaker Milton Dick are long-time friends and close confidants.

But it is understood she also has a scheduled meeting with the Prime Minister.

State budget estimates meant the Treasurer was unable to be in Canberra to witness the election of his brother as the Speaker, only the third time a Queenslander has held the role since World War II.

The Premier also met with the Japanese Ambassador, Shingo Yamagami, in Canberra — the first meeting between the pair since the state government implemented a mining royalty hike so unpopular it garnered an out-of-character rebuke from the Japanese.

It has been confirmed the Premier did not use the government jet to fly to the capital.
