Annastacia Palaszczuk has reprimanded one of her MP’s who engaged in an expletive laden Twitter rant against a federal greens member.
The premier said that Labor Member for Nicklin Robbie Skelton’s now deleted tweet to Greens federal member for Griffith Max Chandler-Mather was inappropriate.
It is understood that on June 25 Mr Skelton replied to a tweet from the Greens housing spokesman calling him “a stain on the blanket of humanity”, as reported by 9 News.
“Really, your (sic) a hyphenated name d**k. I’m a renter and I represent my electorate. I absolutely know how people feel … go and get stuffed you Tree torie p**k … Sit yourself you upstart s**t,” the Sunshine Coast MP also wrote.
Speaking during the World Mining Congress at the Brisbane Convention Centre on Tuesday Ms Palaszczuk called for MPs to act with respect.
“People need to behave respectfully across all sides of politics and maybe you might ask those questions to Jarrod Bleijie,” she said.
Mr Skelton told 9 News that he probably should not have written what he did but was angry at the Greens housing policy and believes it is making homelessness worse.
On June 19 the Greens alongside the Coalition successfully deferred voting on the government’s $10 billion Housing Australia Future Fund until October.
Commenting on Mr Skelton’s tweet and broader critique of his party’s stance Mr Chandler-Mather tweeted that “name calling and personal insults aren’t surprising from Labor”.
“It’s how’d you expect a party that ultimately serves the interests of property developers and banks would react to people demanding we cap rents or spend enough on public housing to house everyone,”
“But rest assured. The Greens aren’t going to stop fighting for renters just because the PM makes some silly insults. That’s not pressure. Real pressure is choosing between paying the rent or feeding your kids. And that’s who the Greens are fighting for,” he wrote on Twitter.
