Meanwhile, residents at Mount Maria, south of Gladstone, have been told to leave their homes immediately as a life threatening bushfire heads towards residential areas.

At 6pm, a large fire was travelling in a westerly direction towards Lowmead. The fire had jumped Tableland Rd between Seeds Rd and Mitchell Rd and has impacted Mitchell Rd and parts of Tableland Rd.

The fire was expected to have a significant impact on the community.

For residents in these areas, leaving immediately is the safest option, as it will soon be too dangerous to drive.

Residents located along Tableland Rd between Seeds Rd and Hills Rd and along Whytallabah Rd, Kirkpatrick Rd, Cross Rd and Lowmead Rd should prepare to leave. While properties at these addresses are not under direct threat at this time, residents should be prepared to leave the area as the situation could change quickly.

Tableland Rd is now closed. Residents should evacuate south along Lowmead Rd towards Lowmead. Those who are unable to evacuate south should travel north along Tableland Rd towards Miriam Vale.

There is an evacuation centre at Miriam Vale Community Hall at 41 Blomfield St Miriam Vale.
