Victoria’s COVID spike gives Qld more reason to keep borders closed: Hanson

CONFUSED by what you can and can’t do when it comes to crossing Queensland’s border? You’re not alone.

We’ve compiled a list of answers to some of the most commonly asked questions.

Can Victorians travel to Queensland?

No they cannot, unless they are exempt. If you are a Queenslander returning from Victoria and have visited a COVID-19 hotspot, then you must self-quarantine for 14 days. Hotspots include dozens of council areas in Victoria.

If I travel from Victoria into Queensland, do I have to quarantine in a hotel?

No, unless you are told to. Queensland Health says an emergency officer will direct you on where to quarantine. This could be in your home or at a hotel at your own expense.

What happens if I travel from NSW to Queensland?

You cannot currently travel from NSW into Queensland, unless you are an exempt person or resident. Exempt residents can include people living and working close to the border, who would travel to Queensland for essential goods or services or for a permitted purpose.

When the border restrictions lift, will anyone travelling into Queensland be required to self-isolate?

The Government will make a decision at the end of the month whether to lift border restrictions. It is yet to decide how this will be done if it goes ahead on July 10.

What happens if I don’t follow the self-quarantine rules?

You can be subject to penalties.
