THE State Government has committed millions of dollars towards a business case for a new hospital to be built in Toowoomba’s north.

The cash splash came as Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and her ministers continue their week-long visit to the Garden City.

Ms Palaszczuk confirmed this morning that the new hospital would be built at Baillie Henderson in Toowoomba North, with the $9 million business case to be completed in 18 months.

“This is the beginning of the detailed planning for a brand new hospital and it’s something that I hope this community will endorse,” she said.

The announcement comes as the city’s sole hospital at Toowoomba South reaches capacity.

Health Minister Steven Miles said the current hospital could be redeveloped once the new one is completed.

The delivery of a new hospital at Toowoomba was a key issue at the last election, with both parties promising to build one.
