ANNA Bligh has seized on Opposition Leader Jeff Seeney’s admission this morning that it was “technically possible” the LNP could lose Ashgrove but still win the election.
The Premier this morning called on the LNP to reveal its “secret” plan B, saying Queenslanders were entitled to know who would become premier if the LNP romped to victory on March 24, as predicted, but Campbell Newman lost his key Ashgrove seat.
“Jeff Seeney today has admitted what every Queenslander has feared and that is that the LNP has a secret plan B,” she said.
“It is now time for Mr Seeney and the LNP to tell Queenslanders what are the other scenarios? What is the secret plan B?”
Mr Seeney made the admission on ABC radio this morning, but later told The Courier-Mail he had not contradicted Mr Newman, who has repeatedly said the LNP would lose the election if it lost Ashgrove.
“It would be absurd to say that it’s not technically possible. It’s technically possible that I could win the Lotto for the next two Saturday nights in a row,” he said.
“It’s what is realistically possible and what Campbell has been saying all along and what I’ve been saying for 12 months is that I believe it is impossible for us to win government if we don’t win Ashgrove.”
Ms Bligh also ridiculed Mr Seeney’s admission to the ABC that he would “mentor” Mr Newman if the former Brisbane lord mayor became premier,
“I don’t think a premier needs a mentor. A premier should be someone who is leading the team, knows what they’re doing and is running the show,” she said.
But Mr Seeney insisted he and Mr Newman would “work as a group” with deputy Opposition leader Tim Nicholls.
“You can use that word (mentor) if you like but the point is there will be no change to the leadership group that has operated here since March last year,” he said.
