THE principal of the Gold Coast high school at the centre of NRL star Jarryd Hayne’s embarrassing pornography gaffe says she is ‘disappointed’ and hopes it won’t happen again.

Robina State High principal Julie Warwick issued a statement after dozens of students were exposed to pornographic images during a cyber-bullying presentation by Hayne and Norton antivirus software manufacturer Symantec this morning.

“In a cyber safety demonstration today led by an external provider, students were momentarily exposed to four pornographic images,” Ms Warwick said in a statement released by Education Queensland.

“The technology was shut down immediately and the provider’s staff were quick to apologise.

“The images displayed were not from any devices belonging to anyone in the room.

“I am disappointed that students were exposed to the images and the school will be offering support to any students that need it.

“I have been assured by the external provider that they will reflect upon this to ensure this does not happen in any future school presentations.”

Hayne’s online browsing history was being shown on a screen at the school, featuring mostly sports images, when a pornographic website was displayed on the screen to the 200-plus students in attendance at Robina State High School.

Norton Security, on whose behalf Hayne was presenting the talk, said afterwards the images had come from another device that had entered the open Wi-Fi network.

“It’s unfortunate and all I can say (is) it definitely was not Jarryd’s device,” Hayne’s co-host from Norton, Nick Savvides, said.

“Connecting to open networks, people can see what you’re doing and in this case, inject unwanted materials.”

Hayne said the incident happened in an instant and he did what he could do to shut things down straight away.

“Obviously I shut my phone straight away so I was logged off,” he said.

Hayne was shocked by the appearance of the images, which remained on the screen for a number of seconds and included lewd acts and a topless woman.

“It was (awkward),” he said

Ironically, the network had been set up to show students the dangers associated with open networks

“We do this demo in many scenarios and we haven’t had this type of thing happen before, so it is unfortunate," Mr Savvides said.

Savvides admitted the incident was embarrassing.

Hayne said online safety was a “huge key’’.

“You just hear more and more cases of people who have taken passwords or bank accounts, everything’s online these days, you can pretty much do anything from any device across the world and I think safety is a huge key,’’ he said.

“I think safety is the first and foremost thing that is important.’’

Mr Savvides said they would be unable to ascertain exactly whose device the website had come from.
