POLICE have praised Queensland motorists after the state lowest road toll on record in 2019.
There were 217 deaths across the state in 2019 down from 245 in 2018.
Road Policing Command boss, Assistant Commissioner Mike Keating, said the results were a combination of “good decisions” by drivers and stakeholder collaboration.

“(It’s) the best year recorded since accurate records have been kept on our road toll,” he said.
“That’s a great tribute to the people of Queensland and visitors to the state for making good decisions.”
However, Mr Keating recognised the “tragic” road deaths of 217 people.
“There is trauma and grief associated with the loss of those people,” he said.
Police also praised crowd behaviour last night in Brisbane with the number of arrests down on previous years.
“There were some of course levels of intoxication but generally the crowds and those younger persons were very well behaved,” Superintendent Christopher Stream said.
