A Moreton Bay Region man allegedly robbed an adult shop and was in the midst of fleeing with sex toys when he choked a police dog during his dramatic arrest.

Carl Vincent Carsburg, 47, was on bail for allegedly assaulting a person in a wheelchair when he broke into the Totally Adult store in Aspley about 1.30am on February 5 and stole “toy-type goods”.

The Bray Park man initially fled on foot but police and the dog squad arrived shortly after.

Queensland Police said officers told Carsburg to stop and released police dog Rocco when he did not comply.

The German Shepherd chased after Carsburg, who then allegedly put the dog in a chokehold before he was arrested.

Police said Rocco was not injured.

Carsburg appeared via videolink in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday where he faced several charges including injuring a police dog, obstruct a police officer, unlawfully assaulting a person in a wheelchair, enter premises and commit indictable offence, possessing dangerous drugs and contravening an intensive corrections order.

Police allege Carsburg assaulted a person with a disability who required a wheelchair in Westfield Chermside Shopping Centre on October 17, 2020.

He was also charged one month later for trespassing at a Redcliffe business.

Carsburg remains in custody and will appear in court next month.
