Police charge 20-year-old Worongary man after stabbing in Mermaid Waters

A man has been charged after a 30-year-old man was stabbed during a fight outside a Mermaid Waters tavern.

A man has been charged after allegedly stabbing another man during an altercation outside a Gold Coast tavern overnight.

Police allege the two men, who are known to each other, got into an argument around 9pm outside Lonestar Tavern on Markeri Street and Sunrise Boulevard, Mermaid Waters.

During the confrontation, a 30-year-old man was stabbed in the upper abdomen. He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

The other man, a 20-year-old from Worongary, left the scene in a car but was later intercepted by police in Quambone Court, Worongary, around 9.30pm.

He was arrested and charged with wounding, and is expected to face Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
