Shocking dashcam footage has captured the moment a dramatic arrest unfolded at a busy Brisbane intersection where a driver allegedly ploughed into the back of a car with children inside.

Driver crashes in Mount Gravatt right next to police

A dramatic arrest has unfolded in a busy Brisbane intersection after a driver was filmed allegedly speeding and ploughing into the back of another car with children inside.

The driver has since been charged.

The dashcam footage shows the driver of a silver Volkswagen behaving strangely while waiting at a set of traffic lights at Upper Mount Gravatt near Westfield.

The man in the driver’s seat can be seen thrashing around inside the car, putting the car in reverse, and then trying to drive forward towards another car.

A police car in the next lane notices the man’s behaviour and activates its lights and sirens, but he takes off up Logan Rd after the light turns green.

The dashcam footage then shows the man overtake cars before ploughing into the back of a car waiting at another set of traffic lights at Klumpp and Logan roads, reportedly with three children inside.

The impact pushes the other car into the busy intersection and smoke starts coming from the engine of the Volkswagen.

Police arrive seconds later and the man emerges from his smoking car with his hands up before officers put him on the ground and handcuff him.

A nearby firefighter is spotted running towards the smoking car and putting the handbrake on and turning off the engine.

The occupants of the other car sustained minor physical injuries.

Queensland Police were alerted to the man’s driving behaviour by a member of the public before spotting him on Logan Rd.

The 20-year-old male driver has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, and driving unlicensed.

He was refused police bail and was due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.

The footage, shared on social media by dashcam Owners Australia, contained some interesting comments.

“Nothing more annoying than when there’s a swarm of bees in “your” car,” one user posted.

“Geezus (Jesus) at first I thought he was fighting a bee...” wrote another.

“Fried and fighting off swarms of bees,” wrote another.

“Looked like he was wrestling an octopus...”

“Just wanted to send a thanks to police (especially the ones in the video) for keeping the community safe and doing such a great job,” said another.
