A large plume of smoke has been photographed in Brisbane’s south as Queensland Fire and Emergency Services issue a smoke warning for residents in the city’s north.
The warning, which covers Keperra, Mitchelton, Enogerra and surrounding suburbs, was issued about 11.15am on Wednesday as crews conduct planned hazard reduction backburn in the area.
Residents who are being affected by smoke are urged to keep their doors and windows closed, avoid driving through smoke and keep respiratory medication nearby if necessary.
The warning comes as a drone south of Brisbane captured images of huge plumes of smoke in the Capalaba area, as backburning takes place around the city.
Queensland Fire and Emergency authorities issued a message on Tuesday warning of smoke in the Brisbane area on Tuesday night and Wednesday.
“You may notice smoke tonight as our partner agencies are conducting multiple hazard reduction burns,” the message read.
“Areas which may be affected include Beerwah, Elimbah, Caboolture, Wamuran, Glass House Mountains, Pumicestone and Morayfield.”
A QFES spokeswoman confirmed that all hazard reduction burns were contained and under control.
