Pedestrians hit by car at Browns Plains

A WOMAN has died and her partner is in hospital after the two were hit by a car while crossing a street south of Brisbane. Witnesses say the female driver tried to help the couple as her children sat in her car.

A WOMAN has died and her partner is in hospital after the two were hit by a car while crossing a street south of Brisbane.

The pair, both aged 67, were crossing the intersection of Browns Plains Rd and Downing St at Browns Plains when they were stuck by a black SUV around 7.45am.

The 28-year-old female driver tried to help the couple in front of her two children, who were in the back seat of the SUV, but the female pedestrian died at the scene.

A witness, who did not want to be named, said emergency crews were yet to arrive when they found the couple.

“The man was getting CPR but the woman was already dead,” the witness said.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the man was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition with back and head injuries. His injuries were not life-threatening.

The pedestrians were from Browns Plains.

The driver of the SUV, who is from Parkinson, was shaken but did not require treatment.

The driver’s father said his daughter left the scene about 9.50am and said she was incredibly shaken from what happened. The family did not want to be named.

Police closed off the area and diverted traffic at Waller Rd. Downing St and Browns Plains Rd remained partially blocked at 10am.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the cause of the crash.

Serious injuries after Caboolture crash

North of the city, paramedics were this morning treating a several patients at the scene of a serious multi-vehicle crash at Caboolture.

The accident happened around 8.30am on Pumicestone Rd and saw a ute come to rest on top of a sedan.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said two people were trapped in a vehicle for more than half an hour, and several others were also assessed. Two people were taken to the Royal Brisbane Hospital, one in a serious condition.
