Kuraby crash: Female pedestrian dies at scene of crash, female driver charged

Police have charged a driver with dangerous driving causing death and driving while intoxicated following investigations into a crash on a major road south of Brisbane in which an elderly female pedestrian died.

A female pedestrian has died and a female driver has been charged following a crash in Brisbane’s south on Sunday morning.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said the 72-year-old pedestrian is believed to have been struck by a car as she was walking on the footpath on Beenleigh Road at Kuraby about 7.45am.

She died at the scene.

The driver, a 48-year-old Sunnybank Hills woman, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, driving while under the influence of liquor (UIL), fail to provide a specimen of breath for analysis or blood for test on requirement, fail to provide specimen of breath or saliva for roadside on requirement.

She has been denied police bail and is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.

In another serious crash in the state’s South East, a patient was flown in a critical condition to the RBWH in Brisbane following a motorbike crash.

The crash happened just after 8am off Twin View Road at Wamuran, near Caboolture.

The motorcyclist was treated at the scene and was described initially as being in a serious condition but was flown to hospital in a critical condition.
