PREMIER Annastacia Palaszczuk wants the Federal Government to pass legislation, that would enable Queensland to continue its controversial shark control program, when it sits next month.
Ms Palaszczuk said there was a great opportunity for the Government to “fix the problem”.
“The reason we had to take the drum lines out is because we would have been in breach of the law,” she said.
“In mid-October when the Federal Government sits, they have the opportunity to introduce and pass legislation that will fix that problem and so we can then put the drum lines back in.
“It’s not a snapper, you can’t kiss it and throw it back in the ocean, it’s a shark.
“I’ve got to protect my workers, I’ve got to protect families and I want to protect tourists as well.”
