NORTHERN suburbs schools have won the latest round in Brisbane’s eternal northside-southside battle, eclipsing those south of the river in OP results – but only just.

The latest Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority Year 12 Outcomes report released this week revealed what percentage of students at each school throughout the state earned a score in the top OP1-5 bracket in 2018.

In a ranking of those results, Brisbane’s northside boasts four schools in Queensland’s top ten – Brisbane Grammar (ranked No.1 in the state), Brisbane Girls Grammar (No.2), St Joseph’s College, Gregory Terrace (No.5) and All Hallows’ School (No.6).

The northside also claims the high-ranking Brisbane Boys’ College (No.17), St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School (No.18) and Clayfield College (No.25), as well as one of Queensland’s top public schools, The Gap State High, which ranked No.32.

However, several major schools on Brisbane’s southside also recorded stellar results with, like the northside, six schools ranked in Queensland’s top 20.

The popular Brisbane State High School had Queensland’s third highest percentage of students who recorded an OP1-5 last year.

Another southside standout was Cannon Hill Anglican College, which ranked No.12 in the state last year, and has steadily boosted its OP results over the past decade.

In 2018, 11 students achieved an OP1 ranking, with more than 40 per cent of OP-eligible students earning a score in the top OP1-5 bracket – a school record.

Principal Gary O’Brien said the school was “exceptionally proud” of the 2018 graduating class and their performance.

“We have focused on creating a culture of learning that encourages every student to always give their best,” Mr O’Brien said.

“Our staff are amazing and genuinely committed to ensuring that every student has opportunities to engage in interesting, challenging and relevant learning.”
