Mr Roberts, who has previously said there was a cabal between UN bureaucrats and global banks to corrupt climate change data, spoke about temperature figures, NASA manipulation and Canadian popstar Justin Bieber’s plane when he appeared on the ABC’s Q&A program Monday night.

The soon-to-be Senator was questioned about why he did not accept the views of “highly-qualified scientists”.

“First of all, that the data has been corrupted... by NASA,” he said.

“The recent figures and the graph is showing the 1940s was a warmer decade and that is correct. In the recent years they’ve been reversed so that the 1930s were reduced in temperature and the later periods were inflated in temperature.”

Mr Roberts also said there was a warming cycle in the 17th and 18th centuries which were faster than another cycle, which he claimed finished in 1995.

“And Justin Bieber wasn’t flying his private jet around then,” he said.

Particle physics professor Brian Cox, who also appeared on the program, said he did not believe NASA, the Australian Academy of Science, the Met Office of weather and climate forecast were all collaborating to manipulate global temperature data.

“The absolute consensus is that human action is leading to an increase in average temperatures,” Prof Cox said.
