Australia’s youngest ever Olympic gold medallist, Gold Coast skater girl Arisa Trew, was promised a pet duck by her parents if she triumphed in Paris - now she has one.
Trew, 14, rolled into the record books when she won gold in the women’s skateboard park event at the Paris Games earlier this month.
Speaking after her historic effort, she told host broadcaster Channel 9 that her parents had promised her a pet duck if she could become an Olympic champion.
She said she loved ducks and wanted a pet one to take on “walks and to the skate park”.
“My parents wouldn’t let me get a dog or cat because we are travelling so much right now,” she said.
“I feel like a duck might be a little easier.”
But a Gold Coast radio station has beaten her mum and dad to the punch, presenting her with a duck live on air on Wednesday.
Triple M Gold breakfast presenters Flan, Spida and Ali surprised a delighted Arisa with the duck at the end of an interview.
“I’ve wanted a duck since I was really young. They’re just really cute, and I love animals,” she told the radio hosts.
Arisa will pick up her pet duck from a local farm when she returns from her next competitions including the World Skate Games in Italy next month.
Asked if she had a name picked out yet for her new feathered friend, Arisa said: “People have suggested named like Paris or Goldie, but I’m still deciding.”
Arisa added that she would “definitely” train her duck to ride a skateboard.
