Australian Olympic swimmer Emily Seebohm has reported a shocking break-in at her Brisbane residence over the weekend.

The athlete and her fiance Ryan Gallagher were at home sleeping when the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The 31-year-old took to social media platform TikTok to share details of the incident, explaining that she initially noticed something amiss when Gallagher was leaving for work and found their garage door open.

The couple had been sound asleep during the alleged break-in, which Seebohm says took place between 5.30 - 6:30am.

“I didn’t sleep great last night. Very, very tired,” she said in her TikTok video.
“We had someone break in to our garage yesterday morning.

“So I didn’t hear anything. But we first noticed when Ryan woke up and was heading to work at 9.30 that the garage door was left open.”

The intruders, she says, were not able to penetrate the main section of her home but did manage to break into their cars.

“They couldn’t get into the house. But somehow, they did manage to get into all of our cars. Not sure how, we believe that they might have opened the garage door from Ryan’s car who has a buzzer in his car,” she said.

While Seebohm’s cars were left intact, the thieves did make off with her wallet and all her credit cards, leaving the interior of the vehicles in disarray.

“All of our keys were inside. So luckily, they couldn’t steal any of the cars. But they did steal, like, my wallet, my credit cards. Basically everything in my wallet. And they rummaged through the cars,” she said.

An emotional Seebohm described the ordeal as “very scary,” noting she was waiting for the police to investigate the incident and hoping that some fingerprints might be found.

“(It was) very very scary waking up to that on a Sunday morning. And just didn’t sleep good last night but waiting for the police to come out and hopefully get some fingerprints and we might know who did this or we might not so fingers crossed,” she said.

The Olympian’s post shared glimpses of the mess left behind by the intruders, highlighting glove boxes left ajar and items strewn across car seats.

“The glovebox was left open. So they obviously went through that looking for whatever they could and this store was like slightly left open,” she said in her video while showing the inside of her two vehicle.

“The glovebox in this one’s open. The centre is open and there’s things on the seat.”
