Numerous small fires the cause for overnight smoke
Fires across the southeast are the cause for a smoke haze across Brisbane this morning, with the fire service saying there's no reason for alarm.

YOU may have noticed some heavy smoke last night and this morning around Brisbane with a multitude of different fires to blame for the build-up.
A vegetation fire in Brisbane’s southwest may be the biggest culprit this morning as the fire burned along Government Rd and Archerfield Rd in Richlands.
One firefighting crew attended the small blaze arriving just before 5.30am this morning, they quickly extinguished the fire that was burning through grass and scrubs at around 6.10am.
I can strongly smell wood smoke. I assume itâs that itâs a little cold and someone in Brisbane is excited to use a fireplace or from a planned burn a few suburbs over BUT the smell is making me super nervous?!!

There were also a few fires burning last night, one on North Stradbroke Island and another on Eight Mile Plains that were quickly extinguished by firefighters.
There were also a number of permitted burns in the Brisbane area as well as some hazard reduction burns that could be contributing to the smoke hanging around Brisbane.

A QFES spokeswoman said that smoke tends to linger at night due to the cool temperature and the lack of wind.
As wind picks up smoke is expected to clear throughout the day.
