‘Not healthy’: Sam reacts to Tully and Drew’s Big Brother romance

After getting caught in a Big Brother love triangle, Sunshine Coast intimacy coach Sam has given her thoughts on Tully and Drew’s infamous on-screen romance

Big Brother’s Sam Manovski believes her job as an intimacy coach helped her navigate difficult relationships in the house.

After striking up a romance with returning contestant Anthony Drew, Manovski, from the Sunshine Coast, found herself at the centre of an uncomfortable love triangle on Monday when his ex-girlfriend, Tully Smyth, entered the house.

Smyth and Drew infamously dated during their time on the show in 2013 despite Smyth having a girlfriend back home, which subsequently ended under the national spotlight.

While they split a few months later, Smyth was surprised to discover Drew was already dating Manovski after a week in the Big Brother house.

“I’m open to (a relationship) in the house but it wasn’t expected,” Sam said.

“I was travelling that year (in 2013) so I didn’t get to see their season but I heard about the scandal and their relationship was quite iconic.”

“It’s interesting because having this insight and awareness (as an intimacy coach) … I know who we are 10 years ago is very different to who we are now.”

“It was probably not the healthiest (relationship).”

“It doesn’t make me nervous. I know exactly how to navigate it.”

Sam said she became an intimacy coach after her own “really s--t relationship”.

“I’ve always had a curiosity around how humans behave,” she said. “It came through my own personal journey in developing myself and becoming a better woman in the way I choose to relate to my partner.”

“Miscommunication, that is the biggest problem (in relationships), and assumptions.”

It was the social experiment aspect of Big Brother that motivated Sam to apply for the show, having watched the original seasons growing up.

“I’m not nervous about anything. I walked out feeling really confident in myself,” she said.

“The hardest thing in the Big Brother house is that you’re disconnected with your support network and only having yourself.

“Learning to have your own back is one of the hardest lessons you’ll learn in life.”

Big Brother continues Tuesday at 7.30pm on Channel 7
