A Sunshine Coast mum fed up with hoons wants traffic calming devices installed in her suburban streets.

Beerwah resident Grace Wass and her daughter are concerned about speeding drivers in their street.

Grace Wass said she was sick of speeding drivers terrorising her community.

"What triggered this for me, I was cleaning the bins the other day I left the gate open, the dogs took off and some idiot came speeding past here and I was just waiting for a bang," Ms Wass said.

"They just roar through here, they'd be going at least 80km/h.

"It's a family community estate, if you're not that way inclined don't live here, there's plenty of other rat race suburbs."

Ms Wass said she noticed a change to the estate once Carnarvon Drive was opened to connect with Linderman Rd.

"People use the estate as a cut through instead of going around to Old Gympie Rd.

"Every time I come out of our street, you're nearly taken out.

"It's a split second from looking both ways and a car appears."

She's found plenty of support online with neighbours sharing their stories of close calls.

Emma Walker wrote a car flew past her and her children while they were looking at Christmas lights.

"At the bend on Carnarvon Dr, a car went past us at at least 90km/h, my children were a metre from him.

"That's how people get seriously hurt."

Florence Scott wrote that she heard traffic every day and night "flooring it".

"It's so scary," she said.

"I make sure my kids stop and are clear away from the side of the road every time a car passes but even that might not help if a car was to lose control at those speeds.

"We should all be able to enjoy our lovely estate.

"It's not a racetrack."

Ms Wass has called for Sunshine Coast Council to investigate traffic calming measures.

"I think a speed hump or two on Carnarvon Dr would be good," Ms Wass said.

"I mean you could put a chicane but if someone is a bit of a speed racer they'll probably enjoy the challenge of a chicane more than a speed hump."
