Noosa Council approves longstanding resort’s ‘health-focused’ upgrade

A popular Noosa resort has been given approval to do a massive renovation so it can offer a health and wellbeing hub to guests and locals.

A popular, longstanding Noosa resort has been given the green light to complete series of “health-focused” upgrades, including an expansion to the existing yoga studio and overhaul of the on-site restaurant.

The Noosa Council voted unanimously to approve the upgrade to facilities at Noosa Blue Resort at the council’s ordinary meeting on Wednesday, with a series of amendments.

The planning committee recommended approval be granted on the condition the resort ensured staff did not park off-site in surrounding streets.

Other approval conditions included the proposed dining area not exceed 30sq m, and not operate beyond 10pm on weeknights and midnight on weekends.

The longstanding Noosa Blue submitted plans to the council in March this year, outlining a proposal for a major upgrade that would allow for more yoga studio space.

Detailed in the development application for the Noosa Dr resort are the plans to expand the existing indoor sport and recreational space by transforming the current car hire area into a shop/office zone.

According to the documents the existing yoga studio, Aloha Active Noosa, was popular among locals and visitors to the resort.

“The yoga studio seeks to expand and create a health focus,” the documents stated.

“On ground level, an additional yoga studio space is proposed in approximately half of the current cafe/restaurant.

“On level one the kitchen will be removed and a treatment focused health spa with interchangeable facilities.”

The health spa will include plunge pools, a sauna and multiple treatment rooms, while the restaurant makeover will mean a change to specialising in health foods.

The development was initially granted approval in 1996, to include 65 holiday apartments, a restaurant and conference centre as well as an onsite car hire service.

The development application was open to public submissions for 15 days in April this year.
