An empty shop front and courtyard in one of Noosa’s trendy eat streets may soon gain a new lease on life in the form of a restaurant or cafe.
Property owner Tracy Fitzgerald has applied to Noosa Council to redevelop an ageing Noosaville Plaza commercial space located in trendy Thomas St.
The shop tenancy was first approved back in 1989 as a retail outlet, but Ms Fitzgerald is hoping a modern eatery spruced up with softening outdoor landscaping will spark new interest in the site.
“It’s just to increase the rental potential for any tenant to broaden into a cafe or restaurant as well as a shop,” Ms Fitzgerald’s town planner Neil Blamey said.

Mr Blamey said the site was ideal with active street frontage and a potential to provide a “high quality and positive contribution to the active character and intent of the Thomas St precinct”.
He said the development would add to the vibrancy of a precinct designated as tourist accommodation zone.
Part of the application is to seek a 10pm closing time on Friday and Saturday nights – an hour later than week days.
“Noise from any music would also need to be addressed as there may be a resident living above the shop next door,” Mr Blamey said.
However he said the hours of operation should be considered low impact because of its zoning.
The application is undergoing assessment by the council’s planning staff.
