A developer that wants to build a luxury resort in Noosa Heads faces a six-month wait over its application as Noosa councillors deferred a decision on the proposed site.

Calile Malouf Investments, the developer behind Brisbane’s The Calile Hotel, has lodged plans with the Noosa Council for a resort.

The application comprises 178 rooms, 12 suites and 15 villas at 3-7 Serenity Close, Noosa Heads, on a 2.4ha site.

The land has an existing development approval, first granted 14 years ago under the 1990 planning scheme, for a resort comprising 109 dwelling units, 90 accommodation units and ancillary facilities.

Council documents stated the development approval currency period expired on April 8, 2022.

“The applicant seeks approval to extend this currency period a further 12 months until April 8, 2023,” the documents stated.

At an October 27 meeting, councillors deferred the decision about the extension until the resort application assessment was completed by council staff.

The council’s environment and sustainable development acting director Leo Jensen said it was “anticipated” the two applications “would be reported to council at the same time”, in about six months.

“The other change application requires public notification for a period of 15 business days, this allows for the community to make submissions regarding the proposal,” he said.

“Anyone who’d like to make comment is encouraged to do so during the public notification period, which is most likely going to be in the first quarter of 2023.”

Calile Malouf Investments director Cal Malouf said the developer was working closely with the council and professional staff “to ensure the best outcome”.
