A private healthcare colossus has pitched its plans for a second hospital in Noosa.

Ramsay Health Care is bidding to build the tourist town’s second major health facility with plans lodged for a new hospital in Goodchap St, Tewantin.

The proposal which currently sits with the Noosa Council is for a day surgery and oncology ward to be built adjoining the existing Noosa Hospital site.

Documents show two boundaries of the site are flanked by homes and 42 parking spaces are also proposed.

“An oncology ward will also be provided as part of the development, which is relocated from the main Noosa Hospital,” the documents stated.

A development application was lodged with Noosa Council in August, 2022, for a hospital and health service on Goodchap Street in Tewantin.

“The proposed use will not involve the provision of facilities for overnight stays.

“The proposal will also consist of health care service uses in an ancillary manner to the primary function as a private hospital.”

The documents show the site is currently occupied by a single-storey home with a garage and shed structure.

The town planning report has been prepared by Urbis on behalf of Ramsay Health Care, which operates the Noosa Hospital.

A Ramsay Health Care spokeswoman declined to comment on the application or questions about the number of beds and operating theatres and how much the hospital was worth.

Tewantin residents Helen and Graham Mutch own one of the homes that back onto the site.

The Ridge St residents of five years said they were happy the plan was for a hospital instead of townhouses.

“Having seen the plans and looking at the location of the proposed dwelling on the block, it looks fantastic with the car parks around the perimeter fences,” Mr Mutch said.

“There is a drainage problem in this estate, there’s no stormwater easement so surface water could be a problem but I’m sure they’ll deal with it.”

Mr Mutch said he wondered what would happen to the fig trees on the property if the development proceeded.

“There’s some very big trees on the property,” he said.
