A clothing designer and property developer duo has taken a leap of faith in opening their first wine bar in the heart of Noosa Heads.

Specialising in predominantly French and Italian wines as well as premium Australian varieties, Atelier offers 120 different options for its customers.

The two friends – Chris Earngey and Jared Clout – decided to open Atelier as they both loved enjoying wine and sharing experiences with their friends.

“We wanted to learn as much as we could about wine so thought this is the way to do so,” Mr Earngey said.

“We wanted a space to create a really cool community in Noosa full of people who love wine and want to be a part of something appreciating it.”

Mr Earngey told the Sunshine Coast Daily they had the idea for the bar a year ago before they started making moves in December last year.

The business partners had never delved into the world of hospitality before but said they were enjoying the journey so far.

“The wine bar has been nothing but challenges, managing relationships in a new industry, trying to understand the industry and how to provide the best possible experience and service,” Mr Earngey said.

Mr Earngey said the response to the “elegant” and “family-style” venue had been very positive.

The space was designed to resemble an Italian cellar with a large dining table and Mr Earngey said the wines were available in tasters, glasses or by the bottle.

“The table provides a space for an intimate wine and dining experience or an opportunity to meet a new friend across the table,” he said.

Atelier means “design studio” in French and can be found on Sunshine Beach Rd.

The space is available for venue hire of up to 20 people and is suitable for parties, small weddings or out-of-office meetings.

“In our opinion the wine bar was a necessity for Noosa as it provides a beautifully comfortable space to drink fine wines, that you can’t do anywhere else,” the clothing designer said.

Guests in the private dining room can also choose from the chef’s menu, with dishes to compliment the list of premium wines.
