DEPUTY Opposition leader Tim Nicholls says he has been assured by party president Bruce McIver that the LNP does not collect dirt files on its own MPs
The Australian today reported senior LNP MPs had told how they were the subject of “dirt files” by their own headquarters.
“I think what is happening here is there’s a bit of mischievousness going on. I don’t know that there is a file about me,” Mr Nicholls said.
“We’ve been assured that this doesn’t go on, the president has made it abundantly clear in a number of statements that he doesn’t believe that this is occurring, that this is not occurring.
“I’m happy to accept those assurances.”
Responding to claims by Mr McIver that the parliamentary wing lacked discipline, Mr Nicholls said the LNP was united behind leader Campbell Newman.
But Deputy Premier Andrew Fraser said it was alarming that the LNP was “spying on its own”.
“What sort of operation seeks to have these files collected on members of their own team?” he said.
He suggested the files were used to “bring to heel” rouge MPs including Michael Johnson and Aidan McLindon.
