Nine crews called to battle large church fire

Firefighters have this afternoon battled a large blaze that has left a Brisbane church extensively damaged.

A large fire has broken out at a church in Brisbane with nine crews called to the scene.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services attended the St John’s Presbytarian Church on King Street, Annerley just after 3.30pm.

A QFES spokeswoman said when they arrived on scene a large fire was burning at the rear of the building and through the roof.

Crews used an aerial apparatus to fight the fire, which was under control just before 5pm.

QFES remained on scene after 5pm to cool down hot spots.
